Steatohepatitis in diabetics

ABSTRACT
A prospective study was conducted in the Diabetic Clinic, Medical Unit-Ill, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre [JPMC], Karachi to find out the prevalence of steatohepatitis in diabetics. All the 200 non-alcoholic registered diabetic patients were randomly screened with liver function tests. Twenty patients who had persistently raised alanine transferase levels for six months with negative biochemical and serological tests were subjected to liver biopsy, which showed the presence of steatohepatitis. It is concluded that 10 percent of diabetic patients suffer from steatohepatitis
