ABSTRACT
The mast number, mast cell, diameter, mast cell surface area and mast cell density were studied using an image-cell analyzer for adenoid tissues of patients with middle ear effusion and compared with patients without middle ear effusion. There was no statistical difference for both groups. The possible role of the adenoid mast cells in the pathogenesis of secretory otitis media was through its degranulation and the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators, which led to Eustachian tube dysfunction and middle ear effusion
