Highlights on the treatment of otitis media with effusion

ABSTRACT
In this work, the otological, auditory and developmental effects of each type of treatment provided for children screened for otitis media with effusion [OME] were studied in a sample of 96 children. No single treatment was superior to any other one. However, some positive effects of surgical intervention on the specific developmental measures were found, especially after myringotomy operation. Tympanostomy tube [TT] insertion should be used only in case of recurrence after myringotomy. Follow up was essential after any type of treatment
