ABSTRACT
IL-1B was measured in 20 cases with simple typhoid fever, 20 cases with complicated typhoid fever [bleeding, perforation encephalitis and haemolysis] and 20 normal healthy individuals. This study was done to investigate level of IL-IB in patients with typhoid fever and it's role in differentiating between simple and complicated typhoid fevers. This study showed a highly significant increase in serum IL-1B levels in simple and complicated typhoid groups compared to normal healthy individuals. Moreover, serum IL-1B concentration was highly significantly increased in complicated group when compared to simple typhoid group. A significant positive correlation was found between serum IL-1 B [pg/ml] and each of magnitude of fever, reversed Widal titre and SGFT [1.u /L], while a significant negative correlation was detected between it and total serum proteins [G/dl] and serum albumin [G/dl]. This study concluded that serum IL -lB concentration showed a highly significant changes during the febrile period of typhoid fever and is a useful detectable parameter in differentiating between simple and complicated typhoid groups, since it's shooting in the last group
