ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to assess the perception of 70 Saudi female hypertensive patients regarding their antihypertensive medication according to the health belief model as well as their compliance to their medication before and after counseling sessions. The patients were followed up monthly for six months. The results revealed that 24.3% of the patients were compliant to their medication before counseling, compared with 84.3% after counseling. Two independent variables, including the patients' satisfaction with the provider and clinic as well as the other's experience, were found to have a significance with the patients' compliance to medication before counseling. Significant differences were observed regarding the patients' perception after counseling in all the studied items. The study highlighted the importance of provider-client relationship on compliance and the consideration of the uniqueness of individual patient
