Complications of peritoneal dialysis in saddam teaching hospital's artificial kidney unit

ABSTRACT

Research was done to study the complications that occur to patients suffered from renal failure who are treated by peritoneal dialysis in Saddam Teaching Hospital [renal dialysis department] for the period from 1-9-2000 until 1-9-2001. The study was done on 50 patients, the result was that 28 patients were complicated, while our country is in the embargo, there is deficiency in medicine and medical requirements so the result as follow 10 Catheter block 20% 7- Catheter leak 14% 3- Hemoperitoneum 6% Unknown case 2, 2% and treated by blood transfusion while these cases appeared during three months. The types of late complications observed are included Umbilical hernia, 2.4% Inflection of periton 3.6%, Loss of ultrafiltration 1.2%
