Comparasion study for prostate specific antigen in normal males above 50 years age and patients with prostatic carcinoma by elecsys immunoassay system and immunochromatography methods

ABSTRACT

The present study was carried out on 180 men. 151 volunteers [age 50-85 years, mean 62.22 years; PSA concentrations 0.089 -108.6 mg/l, mean 4.7 mg/l] and 29 patients referred to the department of Urology in Aleppo University Hospital [age 53 -82 years, mean 64.24 years; PSA concentrations 3.65 - 153.1 mg/l, mean 29.12 mg/l]. The immunochroma to graphic tests were interpreted at 8 min Parallel serum samples were simultaneously collected and tested with an ordinary quantitative assay [Elecsys 2010, Roche]. Sensitivity, specificity, negative and positive predictive values of the test were 92.4, 99.1, 95.8 and 98.4%, respectively. PSA Rapid Screen is a rapid, simple and reproducible one-step test. The low cost and the speed of the test make it a powerful and convenient tool for prostate cancer screening programmes
