Mother's home care practices for the child age [1-5] years with pneumonia

ABSTRACT
to identify mothers home care practices provided for their children who suffer from pneumonia. Descriptive study carried out during April 2002 in Al-Mansour Pediatric Teaching Hospital in Baghdad. Purposive sample 50 mothers who accompanied their hospitalized children with pneumonia were selected. Data were gathered through interview by using questionnaire format concerning mothers" home care practices for child with pneumonia. Data analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistical procedures which include frequencies, percentage, mean of score and chi-square procedure, crowding index also calculated. The findings have approved highly significant association between mother's home care and their demographic variables [Age, education level, occupation, residential area, feeding method during the first 6 months of child's life and crowding index]. The investigators recommended further and more extended studies in relation to mothers" practices toward children with pneumonia diseases, prevention, and control, and emphasize on mass media which should take an action to keep the mother informed and aware about pneumonia
