Blood glucose and blood cortisol levels in children treated with cyproheptadine

ABSTRACT
The fasting blood glucose, the postprandial blood glucose and blood cortisol levels were estimated in twenty child before, two months after the use of cyproheptadine and on a third time two months after the cessation of the drug. No significant changes in blood glucose levels were noticed, but blood cortisol levels were significantly reduced with cyproheptadine, the pretreatment level was attained after cessation of the drug. During treatment, the children manifested increased appetite and noticable weight gain A possible mechanism of action of cyproheptadine is discussed
