ABSTRACT
An open, non-comparative prospective study was carried out on 28 adult patients with confirmed gastro-oesophageal reflux disease [GERD] to evaluate the efficacy of famotidine [40mg b.i.d. for 6 to 12 weeks]. Out of 26 patients [2 lost to follow up], symptomatic relief was observed in 19 [73.08%] patients at 6 weeks and 24 [92.31%] at 12 weeks. Fourteen [53.85%] patients showed endoscopic healing at 6 weeks and 25 [96.15%] at 12 weeks. The results indicate that famotidine is an effective drug in providing symptomatic relief and endoscopic healing in GERD
