ABSTRACT
A prospective study was conducted on 45 cirrhotic subjects admitted in a medical ward following bleeding from oesophageal varices demonstrated on gastroscopy. They were randomized to receive either sclerotherapy alone or sclerotherapy combined with subcutaneous injections of Octreotide. Rebleeding episodes were less common in patients who received sub-sclerotherapy in reducing rebleeding episodes
