The authors present the wound healing and its main events of its several phases. In addition, the principal systemic factors that potencially impair or delay the wound repair, are reviewed. With this purpose, they discoused on the likely mechanisms of action of the following factors nutritional deficiency states, low oxygen tension, zinc deficiency, anti-inflamatory drugs, renal failures, immunodeficiency states, anaemia, diabetes, old age and vitamin deficiencies
