ABSTRACT

The authors present one case of stem fatigue fracture ofa cemented total hip prosthesis, which took place 43 months after its implantation. There was good cement thickness, adequate stem positioning, and absence of radiographic signs of loosening at the revision. The retrieved implant and an unused stem of the same type (control) were analyzed by macrographic inspection, metallographic and chemical analysis. The implants were found to have improper attributes of manufacturing and structural nature
