A maior diferença ocorreu no dia três (p<0,01).
Aim:
To identify the influence of serum bilirubin on neonatal sepsisMethods:
Cohort study. Bilirubin was measured at four planned moments. Statistical analyses included Student t test, RR with 95 per cent CI and chi-square. Level of significance was p=0.05.Results:
Fifty-three patients were included in the study. Patients without sepsis had significantly higher bilirubin levels than patients with sepsis. The largest difference occurred at day 3 (p<0.01). In the high bilirubin group (>10mg/dL) occurrence of proven sepsis (25.8 per cent) and severe sepsis (29 per cent) was significantly lower than in the low bilirubin group (71.4 per cent and 52.3 per cent), p<0.01.Conclusion:
High bilirubin levels protected neonates from the occurrence and severity of sepsis.
