Abordaje integral del paciente bipolar: el rol de las disfunciones cognitivas / Integral study of the bipolar patient: the role of the cognitive dysfunctions

ABSTRACT

Recent studies have reached conclusions, on neurocognitive performance in patients j with bipolar disorder, certifying the existence of cognitive dysfunctions in a significant group of the patients, even in periods of euthymia. The inverse association between the dysfunction of cognitive functions and familiar, social and work functioning of the patient, has begun to generate the need to evaluate this cognitive performance, incorporating this aspect of bipolar disease into the integral treatment of whom suffers it. Cognitive dysfunctions in bipolar disorders are reviewed.

RESUMEN

Las conclusiones alcanzadas por estudios recientes sobre el rendimiento neurocognitivo de pacientes con trastorno bipolar, han ido certificando la existencia de disfunciones cognitivas en un grupo significativo de ellos, incluso en períodos de eutimia. La inversa asociación entre el compromiso de las funciones cognitivas y el funcionamiento familiar, social y laboral del paciente ha comenzado a generar la necesidad de evaluar su desempeño congnitivo, y de incorporar este aspecto de la enfermedad bipolar al tratamiento integral de quienes que la padecen. Se revisa el rol de las disfunciones cognitivas en los trastornos bipolares.
