A relação da mãe em situação de depressão com suas figuras femininas de apoio / Mother’s relationship with female support figures in the context of maternal depression

RESUMO

O objetivo deste estudo foi examinar a relação da mãe em situação de depressão com suas figuras femininasde apoio. Participaram sete mães adultas com indicadores de depressão. Estes foram avaliados através doInventário Beck de Depressão e entrevista diagnóstica. As mães também responderam a entrevista sobre agestação e o parto e sobre a experiência da maternidade. Os resultados de análise de conteúdo das entrevistasindicaram que embora a presença das figuras femininas de apoio tenha sido sentida como alívio e proteçãopelas mães, estas delegaram os cuidados dos bebês para as figuras femininas. Nesse sentido, discute-seem que medida estas figuras ajudaram de fato estas mulheres a assumir o papel de mães. Para finalizar,enfatiza-se a importância de se considerar as peculiaridades de uma figura feminina de apoio para as mulheres em situação de depressão materna.

ABSTRACT

The present study aimed to examine mother’s relationship with female support figures in the context ofmaternal depression. Seven adult mothers with depression indicators took part in the study. Depressionindicators in mothers were evaluated through Beck Depression Inventory and a diagnostic interview. Mothersalso answered a semistructured interview concerning pregnancy and labor, as well as the experience ofmotherhood. Qualitative content analysis was used. The results of the study indicated that although thepresence of female figures was felt as relief and protection, mothers delegated maternal care to those femalefigures. In this sense, the extent to which these figures did in fact help these women to assume the maternalrole is discussed. Finally, the importance of considering the peculiarities of a support female figure forwomen in the context of depression is highlighted.
