ABSTRACT
The objective of this study was to correlate the parameters of the critical power model obtained by canoeists in an upper body cycle ergometer and in kayak. The parameters were estimated, in both situations, through exhaustive tests lasting between 1 and 15 minutes. The critical power (PCrit) in the upper body cycle ergometer varied between 123 to 124 W among the three predictive equations estimates of the model. The anaerobic work capacity (CTAnaer) varied between 10.551 to 10.831 J. In the water, critical velocity (VCrit) was among 3,06 to 3,10 m/s, while the anaerobic work capacity in kayaking (CACanoagem) was in the 62,2 m to 74,0 m range values. The correlations among the estimates of PCrit and VCrit were of r = 0,79 - 0,91 (p <0,05), while the correlations between the estimates of CTAnaer and CACanoagem were of r = -0,03 - 0,36 (p> 0,05). Therefore, it was concluded that the aerobic capacity of canoeists in the kayak can be predicted through simpler and controlled tests in the upper body cycle ergometer.
