Alternativas visuales en pacientes con baja visión / Visual alternatives in patients with low vision

RESUMEN

Según la OMS (1994), un paciente con baja visión es aquel que con su mejor corrección en el ojo con mayor visión tiene una agudeza visual no mejor a 20/60 y el campo visual es de 10º o menor. En la actualidad, hay más de doscientos millones de personas en el mundo con baja visión, por lo que es importante conocer y estudiar este campo, ya que hay muchas personas que necesitan la colaboración del profesional de la salud para mejorar su calidad de vida. El propósito de este artículo de revisión es dara conocer las generalidades de la baja visión, el diagnóstico, la conducta y, principalmente, presentar las diferentes ayudas ópticas, no ópticas y electrónicas para cubrir las necesidades del paciente según sus expectativas y motivación.

ABSTRACT

According to the World Health Organization (OMS,1994), a patient with low vision is one that with his best correction in the eye with greater visual acuity of vision has not improved to 20/60 and the visual field is 10 degrees or less. At this moment, there are over 200 million people in the world with low vision,That is why it is important to know and study this field, because there are many people who need the cooperation of health care practitioners to improve their quality of life. The purpose of this review article is to raise awareness about the generalities of low vision, diagnosis, behavior mainly given by the various optical, non optical and electronic aids, in order to supply the needs of the patient according to their expectations and motivation.
