RESUMEN

Las diferentes posiciones adoptadas por las mujeres durante el parto han constituido hitos importantes a través de la historia, algunos de los cuales no están totalmente resueltos. En los últimos tiempos, con el desarrollo de la ciencia, la asistencia al parto se ha estado realizando en un medio hospitalario y con personal especializado y de esta manera, la mayoría de las mujeres occidentales tienen sus partos en la llamada posición dorsal, la que supone permite al médico controlar mejor el estado del feto, asegurando así un parto seguro, fundamentalmente para garantizar su bienestar, por lo que se ha dicho que se ha cambiado la tradicional forma de parir, dominada por la movilidad y verticalidad, a la pasividad y horizontalidad. En este artículo se realiza una revisión sobre las principales posiciones de la gestante en el trabajo de parto y el parto a través de la historia, sustentadas por criterios científicos, históricos y culturales, en los que la costumbre ha tenido gran influencia en muchas partes del mundo

ABSTRACT

The different positions adopted by women during delivery have been important milestones through the history; some of them are not fully solved. In past years with the development of science, the delivery assistance has been performed in a hospital environment and with a specialized staff and thus, most of western women have their deliveries in the dorsal position, which supposedly allow physician a better control of fetus status securing a safe delivery, mainly to guarantee its wellbeing that is why now we said that the way of deliver has changed, controlled by mobility and verticality, to passivity and flatness. The objective of present paper is to make a review on the main positions of pregnant in labor and the delivery through the history, supported by scientific, historical and cultural criteria where the habit has had a great influence in many parts of the world
