Gramaticas de vida: el censo de 1907 yla poblacion como uso de gobierno / Life grammars: the 1907 census and population as a tool of government

RESUMEN

Este artículo, a partir del censo oficial chileno de 1907 y constatando inexactitudes cuantitativas, pasa revista al ejercicio de la categoría de población y el desmedro en este uso, de la realidad india, poniendo énfasis en cómo tiene lugar una destitución de los conflictos territoriales, políticos e identitarios que atraviesan la tensa relación entre el Estado-nación y los indios. El artículo estudia el desplazamiento de esta problemática en distintos momentos históricos de la institucionalidad chilena, y muestra que pese a las diferentes posturas, coexiste en una misma configuración epistemológica y política, comprometiendo la implementación de la salud pública en Chile. Las figuras de Orrego Luco, Murillo, González y Allende, se dan cita en estos análisis y debates.

ABSTRACT

This article, based on the official census in Chile in 1907, notes its quantitative inaccuracies, reviewing the use of the category of population and its detrimental impact on the Indians, emphasizing how it erases the territorial, political and identity conflicts that traversed the tense relationship between the nation-state and the Indians. The article studies how this problematic shifted at different historical moments in Chilean institutions, showing that despite the different positions taken, it maintained the same epistemological and political configuration, compromising the implementation of public health policies in Chile. The figures of Orrego Luco, Murillo, González y Allende are quoted in these analyses and debates.
