ABSTRACT
This article has compared cephalometric changes in individuals with Basal Class II and Class III submitted to orthognathic surgery, throughout cephalometric analysis of Schwarz/Faltin, in establishing the diagnosis and planning of orthodontic-surgical treatment. Sixty-four lateral eleradiographs of 32 adult individuals with Class II and Class III skeletal malocclusion submitted to orthodontic-surgical treatment were selected from the files of the Clinical Department of Universidade Paulista (UNIP). Through linear and angular measurements performed in pre and post-operative cephalometric tracing (T0 and T1), we have compared the maxillomandibular positions among themselves and in relation to the skull base. Cephalometric measurements were submitted to descriptive statistical analysis under Student t test. The evaluated method has shown statistically significant differences between the traces T0 and T1, demonstrating the efficacy of the cephalometric measurements in cases of Basal Class II and Class III. In cases of Basal Class II, the Basal angle and the Deve angle did not follow spatial changes on the maxilla and the mandible obtained by orthognathic surgery.
