Caracterización sociodemográfica y temporal de la diabetes mellitus tipo 2 / Socio-demographic and temporal characterization of type-2 diabetes mellitus

RESUMEN

Introducción: la diabetes mellitus tipo 2 constituye un problema de salud que afecta a la humanidad, por lo que se hace necesaria su investigación en aspectos sociodemográficos y temporales. Objetivo: caracterizar a los pacientes diabéticos tipo 2 de acuerdo a variables sociodemográficas, los años padeciendo la enfermedad y la edad de aparición. Material y método: se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal, de tipo observacional. El universo de estudio lo constituyeron los 48 pacientes diabéticos tipo 2 del consultorio 119 del Policlínico Universitario "Hermanos Cruz"; la muestra fue de 45 pacientes. La investigación abarcó desde el 1 de abril de 2009 hasta el 30 de abril de 2010. Resultados: la diabetes mellitus tipo 2 resultó ser más frecuente en los grupos de edades de 50 a 79 años con un predominio significativo del sexo femenino. Conclusiones: la mayor parte de los pacientes estudiados tenían menos de 10 años de evolución de la enfermedad y el debut de esta se produjo con mayor frecuencia en los grupos de 50 a 59 y de 40 a 49 años.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: type-2 diabetes mellitus constitutes a health problem that affects humankind; therefore research about the topic is necessary considering socio-demographic and temporal aspects. Objetive to characterize type 2 diabetic people according to socio-demographic variables, years suffering from the disease and the age of onset. Material and method: a descriptive and cross-sectional, kind of observational study was conducted with the intention of classifying type-2 diabetic people according to socio-demographic variables, years suffering from the disease and age of onset at 119 Doctor's Office, "Hermanos Cruz" University Clinic. The target group included 48 type-2 diabetic people belonging to the health area and the sample was comprised of 45 people. The research was carried out from April 1st, 2009 to April 30, 2010. Results: type-2 diabetes mellitus resulted more frequent found in ages from 50 to 79 having a significant prevalence in female sex. Conclusions: the most important part of the people participating in the study showed less than 10 years of the disease natural history and the onset was frequent in the group of ages from 50-59 and from 40-49.
