Saneamento e saúde na Amazônia Legal: uma análise de situação de ambiental nos municípios do estudo do Maranhão / Sanitation and health in the Amazon: an analysis of the environmental situation in the municipalities of the study of Maranhão

RESUMO

O presente estudo teve por objetivo realizar uma análise de situação de saúde ambiental dos municípios que compõem a Amazônia Legal do estado do Maranhão. Conforme a metodologia proposta, o estudo teve um recorte quantitativo e qualitativo. Para o primeiro recorte, inicialmente foi desenvolvida uma revisão teórica com base nos temas saúde, ambiente e desenvolvimento, para em seguida analisar os indicadores socioeconômicos, ambientais e de saúde disponíveis dos estados. No momento seguinte, foi caracterizada a região da Amazônia Legal do Maranhão segundo seus aspectos históricos, geográficos, ambientais, sociais e de desenvolvimento econômico. Posteriormente, foram explorados os indicadores segundo a metodologia “Forças Motrizes, Pressões, Situação, Exposição e Efeitos” (FPSEE), tendo como problema ambiental o saneamento inadequado nos municípios. O recorte qualitativo do estudo foi realizado no município de Santa Inês (MA) e teve por objetivo compreender a realidade local da região, visando encontrar problemas não dimensionados pelos indicadores percebidos pela população. Os resultados revelaram uma Amazônia Legal dinâmica e muito heterogênea, com uma população crescente e concentrada principalmente em áreas urbanas, onde a degradação ambiental e os projetos de desenvolvimento voltados para a exploração de recursos naturais estão associados, conformando um quadro complexo de problemas de saúde...

ABSTRACT

This study discusses about a situation analysis of health and environment of the municipalities that the Legal Amazon state of Maranhão. The methodology used quantitative and qualitative methods. Initially, a theoretical review was conducted to articulate the themes health, environment and development, to then analyze the indicators of socioeconomic, environmental and health indicators the states of the Brazilian Amazon. Subsequently, socioeconomic, environmental and health indicators were explored using the methodology "Driving Forces, Pressures, State, Exposure and Effects" (FPSEE). The environmental problem was considered inadequate environmental sanitation in cities. The qualitative methods of the study were conducted in the municipality of Santa Inês - MA. At this stage of the study, the local health situation was investigated to understand the local situation in the region and to find problems not scaled perceived by the population. The results showed a dynamic and heterogeneous region, with a growing population and concentrated in urban areas, combining environmental degradation associated with development projects for the exploitation of natural resources, which results in complex health problems. Economic growth has not been accompanied on improving distribution indicators (PIB per capita), social (poverty incidence, IDH and education), environmental and sanitation, persisting inequalities. In health status, remains the expressiveness of infectious and parasitic diseases related to the intense environmental changes and the precarious living conditions. While the development model is providing the improvement of some economic indicators, social and health, there are serious environmental changes, vulnerabilities and inequalities that produce negative effects on health associated with a rapid and precarious process of urbanization...
