Achados fonoaudiológicos na deglutição de idosos do município de Irati - Paraná / Speech-language findings in deglutition of elderly in Irati- Paraná, Brazil

Resumo As mudanças que ocorrem no organismo do idoso saudável podem prejudicar o funcionamento da deglutição. A presbifagia, modificação na condução do bolo alimentar nos indivíduos saudáveis que se encontram na fase do envelhecimento, é o foco deste estudo. O objetivo deste trabalho é caracterizar os achados fonoaudiológicos na deglutição orofaríngea em idosos com presença ou ausência de queixa de deglutição, do município de Irati-PR. A deglutição de 17 idosos foi avaliada. Os resultados mostram que nove sujeitos apresentaram mais de uma queixa. Cinco sujeitos disseram ter a sensação de alimento parado após deglutição; outros cinco afirmaram terem engasgos ou tosse durante a alimentação; quatro sujeitos sentem dificuldade para deglutir consistência sólida; três queixaram-se de "boca seca" (xerostomia) e um sente dor ao deglutir. A avaliação fonoaudiológica mostrou hipotonia da musculatura orofacial em 11 idosos; dez faziam uso de prótese superior e três usavam a prótese oral inferior; sete sujeitos apresentaram diminuído o limiar de excitabilidade do reflexo da deglutição; um sujeito apresentou ausculta cervical ruidosa. Observou-se manobra de deglutição múltipla na maioria dos sujeitos, o que pode ser uma tentativa de minimizar os déficits.

ABSTRACT

Abstract The changes that occur in the body of healthy elderly may impair the functioning of deglutition. The presbifagia is the focus of this study. The changes in the conduct of food cake in healthy elderly individuals characterize the presbifagia. This study aims to characterize the speech-language findings in oropharyngeal deglutition in elderly with presence or absence of a complaint of swallowing in Irati, Paraná. Seventeen elderly were evaluated. The results show that nine subjects had complaints; five subjects reported to have the sensation of food stopped after swallowing; five had choking during swallowing; four had difficulty in swallowing solid consistency; three complained of "dry mouth" (xerostomia) and an elderly felt pain when swallowing. The evaluation showed 11 subjects with hypotonia of the orofacial muscles; ten individuals used upper prosthesis and three subjects with lower prosthesis; seven elderly showed delay in the pharyngeal phase; an individual with cervical auscultation noisy. The multiple swallowing was observed in most subjects. This may be an attempt to minimize the deficits.
