ABSTRACT
OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate the clinical course of the Fitz-Hugh-Curtis syndrome (FHCS)METHODS:
33 patients who were diagnosed with FHCS were included in this study. Statistical analysis was carried out by t-test, Pearson correlation and Chi-square test using SPSS version 12.0.RESULTS:
Our data showed a significant correlation between the C-reactive protein (CRP) and the degree of the elevation of liver enzymes (p=0.017, p=0.0046). 24 patients were infected with Chlamydia trachomatis (77.4%). All patients except one showed subcapsular enhancement of the liver in computed tomography. Presences of tubo-ovarian abscess in the sonographic finding were more significantly correlated with elevation of CRP than computed tomographic findings (p=0.015).DISCUSSION:
This study suggests that the patients who had right upper quadrant pain should be carefully evaluated to rule out gynecologic diseases. CRP is an important marker of progression and clinical course in FHCS.
