ABSTRACT
The blood vascular casts of the small intestine of sevcral laboratory animals (15 guinea pigs, 5 mice, 3 rats, 2 rabbits and 1 monkey) have been investigated in stereo-microscope and scanning electron microscope. We pay particularly attention to the architecture of the villous blood vascular plexus.According to the characteristics of the structure, the villous blood vascular plexus of guinea pig, mouse, rabbit, and monley may be described as "the tuft pattern"; while that of rat as "the fountain pattern". However, there are some obvious differences between all of them.In guinea pig, rabbit and monkey, there are recti blood vessels at the lower part of the villus. They assume the characteristics of portal vessels in guinea pig and rabbit. The significance of the different patterns and the presence of recti vessels in the villous blood vascular plexus of the small intestine were discussed.
