ABSTRACT
Objective To evaluate the effect of motivational interviewing (MI) on the levels of depression and suicidal ideation in patients with depression . Methods Tolly 120 cases of depressive patients with suicidal ideation were randomly divided into intervention group and control group , 60 cases in each group . All the patients took antidepressants . The control group was in accordance with routine nursing , and the intervention group was in accordance with routine nursing and motivational interviewing . The Hamilton depression scale ( HAMD ) and the self-rating idea of suicide scale ( SIOSS ) were used for the assessment of both groups before and after intervention . The incidences of suicidal behaviors were compared . Results The scores of the HAMD and the SIOSS showed no significant difference before and 12 th week after intervention , the scores of the HAMD and the suicidal ideation and the SIOSS of the intervention group were significantly lower than that of the control group ( P<0 . 01 ) . Conclusion Motivational interviewing can reduce the levels of depression and suicidal ideation in the depressive patients . It plays a positive role in the prevention of suicidal behavior .
