ABSTRACT
Herpes zoster is viral infection that presents unilateral aggluted rash or vesicle along the sensory nerve. It occurs when varicella-zoster virus infection is reactivated around neurons in dorsal root ganglia after childhood first infection(chicken pox)'s latency period. Facial Herpes zoster is characterized by a pain, redness, and aggluted vesicle on hemifacial area. A typical pain is much severe when the trigeminal nerves are infected and can be sustained after rash healing, which is reported that it happenrs in more than 50% of untreated patients. We call this painful symptom postherpetic neuralgia. Therefore early diagnosis and treatment is necessary. This is a case of a 82 years old female patient who had complained idiopathic sharp pain, edema and red vesicular lesion on oral mucosa and left facial epithelium. We successfully treated herepes zoster on oral and hemifacial area by acyclovir. So we present case of herpes zoster with review of literatures.
