ABSTRACT
Neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis(NEC)is an inflammatory intestinal disorder that seriously threatens the life of neonates(especially premature babies). The pathogenesis of NEC remains uncertain. The main factors thought to be connected with the pathogenesis of NEC are intestinal immaturity, enteral feeding, the intestinal microecological imbalance, inflammation, ischaemia-reperfusion injury and genetic predisposition. The clinical manifestations of NEC are diversified and early symptoms are concealed. It is easy to be misdiagnosed or missed, delayed treatment.Imaging techniques such as abdominal X-ray or ultrasound, intestinal microbiome and its metabolites determination, biomarkers and other methods contribute to early diagnosis. This article reviews the advances in the pathogenesis and early diagnosis of NEC to guide clinical prevention and treatment.
