ABSTRACT

Going over the anatomy and physiology of the levator palpebrae superioris muscle, once will note that one of its insertions is the skin of the upper eyelid, and the contraction of which muscle causes it to become deeply recessed, hence the formation of the superior palpebral fold. Whereas in slit or almond eye of the Orientals, the cutaneous insertion of the levator palpebrae superioris muscle is absent, hence when it contracts, it carries with it the tarsus only while the skin rolls in following the edge of the lid without forming a lid fold.
