ABSTRACT

Understanding indoor occupancy patterns is crucial for energy model calibration, efficient operations of fresh air systems, and COVID-19 exposure risk assessment. University libraries, as one of centers of campus life, due to the high mobility and "foot-voting” nature of them, i.e., occupants pick seats in the micro-environments they prefer, provide a non-intrusive opportunity to carry out post-occupancy evaluations. We conducted a long-term online monitoring of occupancy in libraries of a university in China by web-crawling the online seat reservation system, based on which, we constructed two sets of databases consisting of around 70 million records of nearly 3, 000 seats in 4 library sections, with seat-level resolution and sampling frequency up to every 10 seconds. The informative data set depicts not only the overall spatio-temporal occupancy patterns, but also nuances hidden within seats and visits. The daily flow of the main libraries exceeded two visits per seat. Half of the visitors stayed at the libraries for 3-6 hours during a single occupancy. Semester schedules and campus accessibility together influence students' decisions on when and which library to go, while even within the same zone, some seats were always more popular than their neighbours. "Semi-isolation” is one of the candidate attractive features proposed to understand the underlying patterns. © 2022 17th International Conference on Indoor Air Quality and Climate, INDOOR AIR 2022. ABSTRACT

Global pandemic due to the spread of COVID-19 has post challenges in a new dimension on facial recognition, where people start to wear masks. Under such condition, the authors consider utilizing machine learning in image inpainting to tackle the problem, by complete the possible face that is originally covered in mask. In particular, autoencoder has great potential on retaining important, general features of the image as well as the generative power of the generative adversarial network (GAN). The authors implement a combination of the two models, context encoders and explain how it combines the power of the two models and train the model with 50,000 images of influencers faces and yields a solid result that still contains space for improvements. Furthermore, the authors discuss some shortcomings with the model, their possible improvements, as well as some area of study for future investigation for applicative perspective, as well as directions to further enhance and refine the model. © 2023 SPIE.

The article is devoted to the development of traditional Chinese medicine in modern China as one of the main directions of culture. The author examines the formation of the modern status of traditional medicine, its popularity, effectiveness in the fight against coronavirus. Much attention in this article is also paid to the creation of such a scientific discipline as the discourse of traditional medicine, within which terminological bases should be systematized, as well as a system for teaching Chinese medicine in foreign languages, in particular in Russian, should be formed.

ABSTRACT

Herein, we establish a novel isothermal digital amplification system termed digital nicking and extension chain reaction system-based amplification (dNESBA) by utilizing the isothermal NESBA technique and the newly developed miniaturized fluorescence monitoring system (mFMS). dNESBA enables parallel isothermal NESBA reactions in more than 10,000 localized droplet microreactors and read the fluorescence signals rapidly in 150 s by mFMS. This system could identify the genomic RNA (gRNA) extracted from target respiratory syncytial virus A (RSV A) as low as 10 copies with remarkable specificity. The practical applicability of dNESBA was also successfully verified by reliably detecting the gRNA in the artificial sputum samples with excellent reproducibility and accuracy. Due to the intrinsic advantages of isothermal amplifying technique including the elimination of the requirement of thermocycling device and the enhanced portability of the miniaturized read-out equipment, the dNESBA technique equipped with mFMS could serve as a promising platform system to achieve point-of-care (POC) digital molecular diagnostics, enabling absolute and ultra-sensitive quantification of various infectious pathogens even in an early stage.Copyright © 2023

ABSTRACT

With the emergence of new respiratory virus,it is more apparent for the vulnerability of population to respiratory viral infection. Non -pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) for respiratory virus infection have become the main way to prevent corona virus disease 2019. Some studies had proven its effectiveness. In addition,the NPIs also significantly reduced the incidence and hospitalization rate of other respiratory disease in children. NPIs for respiratory virus infection in children have its particularity and challenge. In daily life,it is important to guide children how to do the NPIs, so as to protect susceptible children and reduce the disease burden in children's health system. Therefore, the aerosol transmission, the specificity of the NPIs in children, and the impact on childhood respiratory diseases are described in this article, to improve the prevention of common respiratory diseases in children.Copyright © 2022 Chinese Medical Journals Publishing House Co.Ltd. ABSTRACT

Data driven analysis is proven to create a competitive advantage to business. Governments and nonprofit organizations also turn to Big Data to harness its benefits and use it for social good. Among different types of data sources, location data collected from mobile networks is especially valuable for its representativeness, real-time observation, and versatility. There is a distinction between mobile positioning data (MPD) generated by the exchanges between mobile devices and the core network;versus over-the-top or system-level location data collecting individual GPS location. MPD is composed of all mobile network events regardless of the mobile phone brand, operating system, app usage, frequency bands or mobile generation;it is uniform and ubiquitous. Getting the best out of MPD relies on the knowledge of how to create an advanced algorithm for homogeneously processing this massive, complex data into insightful indicators. Anonymized and aggregated MPD enables the testing of multiple combinations with other data sources, fully abiding by GDPR, to arrive at innovative solutions. These unique insights can help tackle societal challenges (the state of mobile data for social good June 2017 GSMA, UN Global pulse). It can help to establish accurate statistics about population movements, density, location, social patterns, finances, and ambient environmental conditions. This article demonstrates how MPD has been used to help combat Covid-19 in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Furthermore, depending on the future direction, MPD and data analysis can serve powering economic development as well as working toward the Sustainable Development Goals, whilst respecting data privacy.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 outbreak has had a huge impact on the construction industry. Different from the panic situation at the beginning of the epidemic, domestic and foreign construction enterprises have explored some valuable experience in the process of prevention and control of the epidemic and resumption of work and production in the two-thread process. Based on the investigation of the impact of the epidemic on construction enterprises, this paper analyzes the changes brought by the epidemic to construction enterprises. On the one hand, we should speed up the recovery of construction enterprises and eliminate the adverse effects of the epidemic as soon as possible. On the other hand, it guides the benign development of construction enterprises, improves their resistance against force majeure, and helps construction enterprises to enhance their resilience and realize steady growth of economic benefits. © ASCE.
