ABSTRACT

We employed publicly available user-generated content (UGC) data from the website Tripadvisor and developed an autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model using the R language to analyze the seasonality of the use of urban green space (UGS) in Okinawa under normal conditions and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The seasonality of the use of ocean-area UGS is primarily influenced by climatic factors, with the peak season occurring from April to October and the off-peak season from November to March. Conversely, the seasonality of the use of non-ocean-area UGS remains fairly stable throughout the year, with a relatively high number of visitors in January and May. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic greatly impacted visitor enthusiasm for travel, resulting in significantly fewer actual postings compared with predictions. During the outbreak, use of ocean-area UGS was severely restricted, resulting in even fewer postings and a negative correlation with the number of new cases. In contrast, for non-ocean-area UGS, a positive correlation was observed between the change in postings and the number of new cases. We offer several suggestions to develop UGS management in Okinawa, considering the opportunity for a period of recovery for the tourism industry.

ABSTRACT

Teamwork is usually a component of the learning assessment framework of online courses, and the timely sharing of information and feedback through synchronous communication is beneficial for team-based assignments. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, university students did not always actively engage in virtual teamwork in online environments because they were learning from home and were subject to the effect of disruptions at home. This study explored the perceptions of university students who engaged in synchronous discussions involving teamwork during the COVID-19 pandemic. Semi-structured individual interviews were conducted with 25 Taiwanese university students. Through qualitative methods that incorporated individual interviews and a content analysis, six content concepts were established. Afterward, relational content analysis was conducted. This study revealed that the students benefited from visible synchronous discussions in terms of inquiry dialogue, project creation, and learning satisfaction. Notably, the interviewees mostly did not switch on their webcams but recognized that webcam use can benefit discussions. The participants' decision to switch on/off their webcams was primarily influenced by their perception of the importance of a given project than by their privacy concerns. Moreover, when home-based leaning was implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, group leaders encountered an obstruction when they were guiding their group members to engage in teamwork involving physical tasks. Future studies should explore how members should be guided to engage in teamwork involving physical tasks during synchronous discussions.

ABSTRACT

Dayuanyin,a representative prescription for the treatment of dampness pathogen lodging in pleurodiaphragmatic interspace syndrome,was first recorded in Treatise on Pestilence(<<>>)by Wu Youke in the Ming Dynasty for dealing with pestilence,and it still plays an important role in the treatment of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)differentiated into dampness stagnating in lung syndrome. The related original ancient records were retrieved from the Chinese Classics of Traditional Chinese Medicine(Version 5.0),Full-text Database of Ancient Chinese Medicine Books,and Ancient Books of Traditional Chinese Medicine Database (http://www. gydc. ac. cn:81/),with 'Dayuanyin' and 'Dayuansan' as the search terms,followed by statistical analysis and textual research. The composition,dosage,processing of original medicinal materials,efficacy, indications, processing and administration methods, modern basic research, and clinical applications of Dayuanyin were summarized,so as to provide literature reference for its modern development and clinical application. The findings demonstrated that the composition in most medical records was identical with that of the original prescription,except that some records concerning Angelicae Dahuricae Radix and Tsaoko Fructus differed. In terms of dosage,it did not change much,with the only difference observed in Tsaoko Fructus. The processing methods of medicinal materials in Dayuanyin were not specified in historical records,so the raw medicinal materials were recommended. The processing and administration methods in the original record were basically followed in the later generations,except that some medical records chose Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens as the guide and changed the decocting amount and administration time. In terms of efficacy and indications, Dayuanyin was originally developed for dispelling pathogenic Qi away from the pleurodiaphragmatic interspace, but later employed for the treatment of such diseases as 'pestilence','epidemic malaria',and 'seasonal epidemic'. It was mainly indicated to 'epidemic diseases' with latent pathogen in pleurodiaphragmatic interspace as the pathogenesis and fever as the manifestation. In modern clinical application,ancients physicians considered 'fever' and 'powder-like tongue coating' as the important signs for this prescription. Modern physicians have utilized Dayuanyin for treating fever,diseases in the digestive,respiratory,urinary,and endocrine systems,skin diseases,pediatric diseases,as well as epidemic diseases like influenza,severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS),and avian flu due to its good effects.Copyright © 2021, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences Institute of Chinese Materia Medica. ABSTRACT

Rapid and comprehensive lockdowns to contain the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic reduced anthropogenic emissions and, thereby, decreased the aerosol optical depth (AOD) in Xiangyang, Hubei Province. However, their complicated interactions make quantifying the contribution of decreased aerosols to crop growth challenging. Here, we explored the indirect effects of decreased aerosol concentrations on the gross primary productivity (GPP) and water use efficiency (WUE) of winter wheat by quantifying the contributions of key environmental factors. Our results showed high temporal and spatial associations between aerosols (represented by AOD), GPP, and WUE before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic. AOD decreased by 23.8% +/- 10.1%, whereas GPP and WUE increased by 16.5% +/- 5.8% and 17.0% +/- 15.3%, respectively. The GeoDetector model revealed that photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) had a major impact on GPP and WUE, followed by precipitation, surface soil moisture, subsurface soil moisture, and surface temperature. Moreover, causality analysis showed a causal relationship between AOD and the dominant factors (PAR and precipitation) during the lockdown, thereby indicating a positive effect of decreased aerosols on GPP and WUE changes of winter wheat. Our findings assist in understanding the mechanisms causing GPP and WUE changes, given the environmental factors that changed significantly during the pandemic. ABSTRACT

In order to decrease the infection of COVID-19 virus, people must frequency wash the hands or decrease the times of touching the public things. The blood pressure (BP) and weight are the important parameters under the healthy management. The goal of this study is to measure BP with a weight scale. The Ballistocardiogram and photoplethysmogram (PPG) were measured to extract the pulse transit time (PTT) that was used to estimate BP. The results show that the performances of proposed method were close to the reference method, using the electrocardiogram and PPG. Thus, the proposed method can decrease the infected risk when measuring BP with the cuff. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Multispecies leisure has recently become an area of attention. Pet-keeping is one of the popular leisure activities today. This study aims to explore the relationship between pet attachment and life satisfaction, with particular focus on the mediating effect of the leisure seriousness and rewards on the relationship mentioned above. A total of 275 responses were collected at a pet exhibition. SEM and SPSS were employed for data analysis. The results revealed that pet attachment is positively related to pet owners’ life satisfaction. The effects of leisure seriousness, personal reward, and social reward were shown to mediate the relationship between pet attachment and life satisfaction. The pet-keeping practices during the COVID-19 pandemic are provided based the serious leisure perspective. © 2022 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

ABSTRACT

We present a supercomputer-driven pipeline for in silico drug discovery using enhanced sampling molecular dynamics (MD) and ensemble docking. Ensemble docking makes use of MD results by docking compound databases into representative protein binding-site conformations, thus taking into account the dynamic properties of the binding sites. We also describe preliminary results obtained for 24 systems involving eight proteins of the proteome of SARS-CoV-2. The MD involves temperature replica exchange enhanced sampling, making use of massively parallel supercomputing to quickly sample the configurational space of protein drug targets. Using the Summit supercomputer at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, more than 1 ms of enhanced sampling MD can be generated per day. We have ensemble docked repurposing databases to 10 configurations of each of the 24 SARS-CoV-2 systems using AutoDock Vina. Comparison to experiment demonstrates remarkably high hit rates for the top scoring tranches of compounds identified by our ensemble approach. We also demonstrate that, using Autodock-GPU on Summit, it is possible to perform exhaustive docking of one billion compounds in under 24 h. Finally, we discuss preliminary results and planned improvements to the pipeline, including the use of quantum mechanical (QM), machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI) methods to cluster MD trajectories and rescore docking poses.
