ABSTRACT
Analysis of social media during the COVID-19 quarantine period in Mainland China provides access to a large amount of user-generated content for sentiment analysis during this unexpected and stressful time period. This study focuses on emotions that were communicated in the context of interactions between parents and young children to explore their emotional attitudes and emotional contagion. Results suggest that positive emotional attitudes were more prevalent in parent-child interactions, which contrasts with previous research. In compar-ison to their children, parents expressed more negative moods. Nonetheless, Chinese preschoolers and their parents influenced each other's emotions with bi-directional effects, providing evidence of emotional contagion. Parents' emotional transmission sometimes resulted in passive suppression by the young children. Emotions were manifested more through physical or behavioral interactions as opposed to verbal statements of feelings, espe-cially during parent to child transmissions. The transmission of emotions from children to parents consisted mainly of two types: children's emotional catharsis and children's active emotional agency. The discussion ex-plores explanations for the observed emotional contagion of positive emotions between parents and children, considers the role of power and agency during emotional contagion, and discusses the effects of Chinese socio-cultural factors on the sentiment analysis.
ABSTRACT
We introduce our GDSGE framework and a novel global solution method, called simultaneous transition and policy function iterations (STPFIs), for solving dynamic stochastic general equilibrium models. The framework encompasses many well-known incomplete markets models with highly nonlinear dynamics such as models of financial crises and models with rare disasters including the current COVID-19 pandemic. Using consistency equations, our method is most effective at solving models featuring endogenous state variables with implicit laws of motion such as wealth or consumption shares. Finally, we incorporate this method in an automated and publicly available toolbox that solves many important models in the aforementioned topics, and in many cases, more efficiently and/or accurately than their original algorithms. © 2023 Elsevier Inc.
ABSTRACT
This study explores the health identity of the anti-new normal protesters during the coronavirus pandemic through analyzing the visual protest repertoires that were employed by the protesters in the two waves of demonstrations occurring across the world between 2020 and 2021. The authors examine the protesters' interpretations of the coronavirus and its mandatory protective measures, their imaginations of the social milieu that has been forever transformed by COVID-19, and their expectations of life. The protesters prioritize the innate physical body, which is essentialized in that there is a static relationship between the physical body and the self as well as between the self and others. The current study enriches our understandings of the new normal opponents' health identity and provides insights into how it differs from that of the supporters. It helps health educators to effectively construct and deliver health promotion messages and foster healthy behaviors during the pandemic.
ABSTRACT
Ultraviolet light-emitting diodes based on Al-rich AlGaN semiconductors operating in the 210 nm-280 nm have drawn significant interest for many critical applications, including water purification, disinfection of air and surface as preventive measures of SARS COV-2, sterilization, etc. However, for the above-mentioned applications, the current technology still relies on toxic and inefficient mercury-based UV lamps. Driven by the immense need for an efficient, mercury-free, compact alternative technology, future water purification and disinfection technologies require the development of high-efficiency UV-C light-emitting diodes. To date, the external quantum efficiency (EQE) in AlGaN quantum well (QW) UV-LED heterostructures has been severely limited due to several factors including large densities of defects/dislocations, extremely low light extraction efficiency (LEE) of dominant transverse magnetic (TM) light, absorptive p -GaN contact, and total internal reflection (TIR). © 2022 IEEE.
ABSTRACT
The COVID-19 pandemic is highly infectious and has caused many deaths. The COVID-19 infection diagnosis based on blood test is facing the problems of long waiting time for results and shortage of medical staff. Although several machine learning methods have been proposed to address this issue, the research of COVID-19 prediction based on deep learning is still in its preliminary stage. In this paper, we propose four hybrid deep learning models, namely CNN+GRU, CNN+Bi-RNN, CNN+Bi-LSTM and CNN+Bi-GRU, and apply them to the blood test data from Israelta Albert Einstein Hospital. We implement the four proposed models as well as other existing models CNN, CNN+LSTM, and compare them in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score and AUC. The experiment results show that CNN+Bi-GRU achieves the best performance in terms of all the five metrics (accuracy of 0.9415, F1-score of 0.9417, precision of 0.9417, recall of 0.9417, and AUC of 0.91). © 2021 by SCITEPRESS - Science and Technology Publications, Lda.
ABSTRACT
With the epidemic of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infection, AlGaN-based ultraviolet-C light emitting diodes (UVC-LEDs) have attracted widespread attention for their sterilization application. However, the sterilization characters of high power integrated light sources (ILSs) haven't been widely investigated before utilizing in public sanitary security. In this work, by integrating up to 195 UVC-LED chips, high power UVC-LED ILSs with a light output power (LOP) of 1.88 W were demonstrated. The UVC-LED ILSs were verified to have efficient and rapid sterilization capability, which have achieved more than 99.9% inactivation rate of several common pathogenic microorganisms within 1 s. In addition, the corresponding air sterilization module based on them was also demonstrated to kill more than 97% of Staphylococcus albus in the air of 20 m(3) confined room within 30 min. This work demonstrates excellent sterilization ability of UVC-LED ILSs with high LOP, revealing great potential of UVC-LEDs in sterilization applications in the future.

ABSTRACT
In 2020, the global outbreak of COVID-19 made the global healthcare system face huge test, and the security of COVID-19 patients privacy data is an extremely important part of the healthcare information system. During the outbreak, there were numerous cases of privacy data leakage of Chinese patients with COVID-19, which caused great distress to patients. This paper proposes a patient privacy data protection scheme combined with blockchain for major epidemics using delegated Byzantine fault tolerant (dBFT) mechanism. The scheme is based on a federated chain, distributing different players such as government agencies, medical institutions and the public in a dual-chain model of main and side chains, and using side chain technology to interact with information between the main and side chains for secure sharing of patient data. It proposes the on-chain hierarchical data encryption scheme (HDES), which protects the patient privacy data on the chain at a fine-grained level using hierarchical encryption technology. Finally, the requested data throughput of the main-side dual-chain model and the encryption and decryption efficiency of the HDES scheme are experimentally analyzed and compared with the existing blockchain electronic medical case scheme. The comparison results show that this scheme has certain efficiency, strong security and high relevance. © 2022, Journal of Computer Engineering and Applications Beijing Co., Ltd.;Science Press. ABSTRACT
The outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic has promoted the development of online teaching and research for primary and secondary school teachers, and has forced them to improve their informatized teaching abilities rapidly. This research is guided by the basic principles of online teaching and learning, integrated into the 'Internet +' thinking, and adopts literature research and theoretical deduction to determine self-organized teaching and research steps, which includes 'Clear needs and starting evolution-Spontaneous learning, triggering ups and downs- Interactive communication and cause mutations- Generating results and triggering transitions-Migration practices, gathering and bifurcating'. This research gives full play to the supporting role of MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) platforms, resources and tools. Finally, the MOOC-based self-organized teaching and research model for primary and secondary school teachers is constructed. On this basis, this research relies on the 'Smart Classroom Teaching' on the Chinese University MOOCs Platform, and the quasiexperimental research method is used to carry out the practical application of the self-organized teaching and research model. Effect analysis shows that this model can improve the teaching and research performance of primary and secondary school teachers in a short period, prompting teachers to achieve a deep understanding of smart classroom teaching, and effectively solve real-world education and teaching problems. © 2021 IEEE.
ABSTRACT
This paper explores the short-run impact of work resumption, extensively launched on February 10, 2020 in China, on air quality after the subsiding of COVID-19. Utilizing the data of 1012 air-quality monitoring sites in 233 cities derived from the Real-time Release Air Quality Platform and the difference-in-differences method, we find that alternative measures of air quality index in non-Hubei provinces increase significantly, compared with those in Hubei province which was temporarily not allowed work resumption due to the severity of epidemic. Specifically, our results reveal a rise in AQI of 11.28 per cent, in PM2.5 of 12.47 per cent, in PM10 of 10.49 per cent, and in NO2 of 23.64 per cent, relative to the baseline mean. Moreover, the deterioration of air quality is found to be caused by intracity rather than intercity migration.
ABSTRACT
Racial/ethnic disparities are among the top-selective underlying determinants associated with the disproportional impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on human mobility and health outcomes. This study jointly examined county-level racial/ethnic differences in compliance with stay-at-home orders and COVID-19 health outcomes during 2020, leveraging two-year geo-tracking data of mobile devices across similar to 4.4 million point-of-interests (POls) in the contiguous United States. Through a set of structural equation modeling, this study quantified how racial/ethnic differences in following stay-at-home orders could mediate COVID-19 health outcomes, controlling for state effects, socioeconomics, demographics, occupation, and partisanship. Results showed that counties with higher Asian populations decreased most in their travel, both in terms of reducing their overall POls' visiting and increasing their staying home percentage. Moreover, counties with higher White populations experienced the lowest infection rate, while counties with higher African American populations presented the highest case-fatality ratio. Additionally, control variables, particularly partisanship, median household income, percentage of elders, and urbanization, significantly accounted for the county differences in human mobility and COVID-19 health outcomes. Mediation analyses further revealed that human mobility only statistically influenced infection rate but not case-fatality ratio, and such mediation effects varied substantially among racial/ethnic compositions. Last, robustness check of racial gradient at census block group level documented consistent associations but greater magnitude. Taken together, these findings suggest that US residents' responses to COVID-19 are subject to an entrenched and consequential racial/ethnic divide.
ABSTRACT
Ultraviolet-C light-emitting diodes (UVC-LEDs) have great application in pathogen inactivation under various kinds of situations, especially in the fight against COVID-19. Unfortunately, its epitaxial wafers are so far limited to a size of 2 inches, which greatly increases the cost of massive production. In this work, a 4-inch crack-free high-power UVC-LED wafer is reported. This achievement relies on a proposed strain-tailored strategy, where a 3D to 2D (3D-2D) transition layer is introduced during the homo-epitaxy of AlN on the high temperature annealed (HTA)-AlN template, which successfully drives the original compressive strain into a tensile one and thus solves the challenge of realizing a high-quality Al0.6Ga0.4N layer with a flat surface. This smooth Al0.6Ga0.4N layer is nearly pseudomorphically grown on the strain-tailored HTA-AlN template, leading to 4-inch UVC-LED wafers with outstanding performances. The strategy succeeds in compromising the bottlenecked contradictory in producing a large-sized UVC-LED wafer on pronounced crystalline AlN template: The compressive strain in HTA-AlN allows for a crack-free 4-inch wafer, but at the same time leads to a deterioration of the AlGaN morphology and crystal quality. The launch of 4-inch wafers makes the chip fabrication process of UVC-LEDs match the mature blue one, and will definitely speed up the universal application of UVC-LED in daily life.
ABSTRACT
The relevance of the research is due to the need to increase the competitiveness of joint educational programs of pedagogical orientation in the system of Russian-Chinese relations in the field of higher education. The student satisfaction indicator not only indicates the attractiveness/unattractiveness of the educational program, but also allows you to identify the most vulnerable places in the organization of the educational process. The purpose of the study is to identify ways to improve the conditions for the implementation of Russian-Chinese joint educational programs of pedagogical orientation. Materials and methods. The study applied a descriptive method to conducting a survey of students studying under the bachelor's degree majors "Preschool Education", "Music Education", "Fine Arts" at the Moscow Institute of Arts of the Weinan Pedagogical University (Province Shanxi). 198 graduates participated in the questionnaire, accounting for 77% of the total number of graduates from the Moscow Institute of Arts. The study was conducted using the author's questionnaire, compiled taking into account the practice of assessing student satisfaction at Moscow Pedagogical State University and the recommendations of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China on the evaluation of joint Chinese-foreign educational programs. Results. In the study, the assessment of students' satisfaction with learning was carried out in five directions: satisfaction with the quality and content of training, satisfaction with the organization of the educational process, satisfaction with the material and technical support of the educational process, satisfaction with the organization of research activities, satisfaction with the socio-psychological climate at the institute. The study found that students' satisfaction with the organization of the educational process (68.2%) and its material and technical support (66.92%) was the highest, compared with their publishing activities in research work (60.4%). Despite the impossibility of implementing programs under the "3+1" scheme, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the internal motivation of students during online training in the "4+0" mode did not decrease, which led to the preservation of the contingent of students throughout the entire period of program implementation. Discussion and conclusion. The research results have practical significance for managers, employees and teachers of pedagogical universities participating in the implementation of Chinese-foreign joint educational programs, as well as for representatives of the scientific community dealing with the problems of ensuring the quality of such programs. Further research of students' satisfaction with studying under Russian-Chinese joint educational programs for teacher training can be aimed at analyzing the quality of implementation of such programs at the level of academic degrees of students of pedagogical universities. © 2021 LLC Ecological Help. ABSTRACT
The occurence of COVID-19 has directly led to the development of large-scale online teaching in China, and the quality of online teaching has become the focus of public attention. From the two dimensions of "evaluation of teaching"and "evaluation of learning", the article establishes an comprehensive evaluation index system of online teaching that includes three secondary indicators of "pre-class preparation", "in-class teaching"and "after-class feedback"with 12 evaluation factors. The empirical research on the online teaching of tourism and hotel majors shows that students both highly evaluate the online teaching platform and the effect of online teaching. It can be seen that teachers are fully prepared before class, they are responsible during the class, feedback is effective after class, and students have reached their learning goals and expectations. After COVID-19 is over, the "PAD + BOPPPS"teaching mode can be used to achieve a seamless connection from "online teaching"to "offline teaching". © 2021 IEEE.
