ABSTRACT

Simulating human mobility contributes to city behavior discovery and decision-making. Although the sequence-based and image-based approaches have made impressive achievements, they still suffer from respective deficiencies such as omitting the depiction of spatial properties or ordinal dependency in trajectory. In this article, we take advantage of the above two paradigms and propose a semantic-guiding adversarial network (TrajSGAN) for generating human trajectories. Specifically, we first devise an attention-based generator to yield trajectory locations in a sequence-to-sequence manner. The encoded historical visits are queried with semantic knowledge (e.g., travel modes and trip purposes) and their important features are enhanced by the multihead attention mechanism. Then, we designate a rollout module to complete the unfinished trajectory sequence and transform it into an image that can depict its spatial structure. Finally, a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based discriminator signifies how “real”the trajectory image looks, and its output is regarded as a reward signal to update the generator by the policy gradient. Experimental results show that the proposed TrajSGAN model significantly outperforms the benchmarks under the MTL-Trajet mobility dataset, with the divergence of spatial-related metrics such as radius of gyration and travel distance reduced by 10%–27%. Furthermore, we apply the real and synthetic trajectories, respectively, to simulate the COVID-19 epidemic spreading under three preventive actions. The coefficient of determination metric between real and synthetic results achieves 91%–98%, indicating that the synthesized data from TrajSGAN can be leveraged to study the epidemic diffusion with an acceptable difference. ABSTRACT

With the fast development of new technologies, such as Internet of Things, big data and Internet plus, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) have made remarkable achievements and the intelligence in ITS has also been continuously increased, which a new field, i.e., Social Transportation, is emerging. In social transportation systems, physical and cyber elements are tightly conjoined, coordinated, and integrated with human and social characteristics. In this paper, we collect and analyze traffic data from physical world and social media data from cyberspace to sense the human mobility patterns during holidays under the COVID-19 pandemic. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is a highly infectious disease with a significant impact on global public health security, and the development of effective antiviral drugs is warranted. In this study, based on HEK293 membrane chromatography (CMC) model that overexpresses angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), we screened six compounds with long retention time on ACE2h/CMC, namely BU-1 to BU-6, from the biphenyl furanocoumarin compounds previously synthesized by our team. The binding properties of the screened compounds to ACE2 were investigated by frontier analysis. Cytotoxicity assay, virtual molecular docking assay and pseudo-viral invasion assay were used to examine the affinity and potential antiviral activity of the selected compounds towards ACE2 protein. The virtual molecular docking results showed that BU-1, BU-2 and BU-5 could form significant hydrogen bonds with hotspot amino acid residues on the ACE2 receptor. And BU-1, BU-2 and BU-5 significantly inhibited the ability of SARS-COV-2 pseudovirus to enter ACE2h cells. Therefore, BU-1, BU-2 and BU-5 have the potential to be used as lead compounds for further modification to develop more effective anti-SARS-CoV-2 drugs. ABSTRACT

AIM: The COVID-19 epidemic is still raging over the globe, and vaccination is supposed to help us overcome it. Although the vaccinations' efficacy is undeniable, their safety is still a concern. This is the first case of CMV proctitis following vaccination since the invention of the COVID-19 vaccine, suggesting that the COVID-19 vaccine may not only cause immune hyperactivity but also cause immune deficiency. We report this case to provoke new thinking about the safety of COVID-19 vaccines. METHODS: We described a case of a 58-year-old Chinese woman, without obvious cause of immunosuppression, who developed persistent constipation three days after the second COVID-19 vaccination. Electronic colonoscopy revealed new circumferential growth at the anorectal junction, with uneven surface and ulceration, which mimicked rectal carcinoma. Rectal biopsy revealed severe active chronic proctitis with CMV infection. The clinical course was favorable with ganciclovir therapy. In this case, we used laboratory biochemical examination, colonoscopy, immunohistochemistry, and other methods to detect, and finally confirmed the existence of CMV proctitis. RESULTS: Ganciclovir was used to treat the patient, and a good effect was observed. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection of the gastrointestinal tract occurs mainly in immunosuppressed patients. While in our case, there was no evidence of immunodeficiency, except for earlier vaccination against COVID-19. Therefore, it is plausible to doubt that COVID-19 vaccination caused the occurrence of CMV proctitis in the patient. CONCLUSIONS: It is speculated that the vaccine can cause immune dysfunction, and thus may not only lead to the occurrence of immune hyperactivity disorders but also immune deficient diseases. The clinical course of CMV proctitis was favorable with ganciclovir therapy.

ABSTRACT

Scientific and moderate exercise is an effective remedy to boost the immune system and minimize the risk of infection in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic period. In this context, social media platforms play an essential role in communicating scientific fitness at home. Based on the integrated analysis of communication, physical geography, and health geography, this article takes short fitness-based videos on TikTok as the research object and comprehensively uses text analysis, mathematical statistics, and spatial analysis to reveal the characteristics of communication elements, fitness preferences, and the spatiotemporal evolution of these short videos, and to explore the communication mechanism and optimization path of short videos. The results show that: (1) the communication information focusing on "fighting against the epidemic and keeping fit at home" is made into short videos by female youth. Through the communication channels mainly composed of texts, pictures, and audio, the communication subjects carry out multilevel interactive communication with the communication objects;(2) fitness preferences are mainly composed of dances, unarmed fitness, and fitness with equipment;(3) from the perspective of time, taking February 20 as the node, the daily number of released short videos shows a trend of "increase before decrease";from the perspective of space, the distribution is significantly unbalanced across provinces, and the direction is not apparent;and (4) this article explores the communication mechanism and targeted optimization countermeasures of short fitness-based videos on TikTok in China's COVID-19 epidemic period.

ABSTRACT

The ADAPT project started during the most critical phase of the COVID-19 outbreak in Europe when the demand for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from each country's healthcare system surpassed national stock amounts. Due to national shutdowns, reduced transport logistics, and containment measures on the federal and provincial levels, the authorities could not meet the rising demand from the health care system on the PPE equipment. Fortunately, the PPE production capacities in China have regained (and expanded) their available capacities through which Austria now can get the demand of PPE to protect its citizens. ADAPT develops an adaptive and autonomous decision-making network to support the involved stakeholders along the PPE supply chain to save and protect human lives. The ADAPT decentralized blockchain platform optimizes supply, demand, and transport capacities between China and Austria with transparent, real-time certification checks on equipment, production documentation, and intelligent decision-making capabilities at all levels of this multidimensional logistic problem. © 2021 ACM.

ABSTRACT

Background: To analyze the clinical features of convalescent individuals with novel coronavirus-infected pneumonia (novel coronavirus pneumonia) at rehabilitation station in Wuhan. Methods: 712 patients in the convalescence period of novel coronavirus pneumonia isolated and observed at the rehabilitation station were investigated by collecting their basic data, clinical syndrome features, and tongue manifestations. The clinical syndrome features were analyzed based on guidelines of Diagnosis and Treatment Plan for Novel Coronavirus-infected Pneumonia (National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China, 7th Trial Edition). Results: Cough (24.86%), chest tightness and shortness of breath (23.17%), and fatigue (16.57%) were the main symptoms of patients in the convalescence period of novel coronavirus pneumonia. Their tongue appearance was mostly characterized by redness (88.65%), thick coating (67.25%), greasy coating (49.78%) and white coating (76.86%). Conclusion: Compared with the ordinary / mild patients, cough and anorexia symptoms were more common in the severe / critical patients. In convalescent patients, red and fat tongue with thick greasy fur were common.

Background: Since early December 2019, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has emerged as a global pandemic and public health crisis. This study aims to explore the relationship between cardiac injury and inflammatory biomarkers in patients with severe COVID-19. Methods: We collected data on 91 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of severe COVID-19 from February 8 to March 31, 2020. Demographic characteristics, clinical data, and in-hospital outcomes were compared. The relationship between cardiac injury and inflammatory biomarkers was analyzed. Logistic regression was used to explore the independent risk factors for cardiac injury. Results: The mean age of all patients was 61 years +/- 14 years. About half of the patients were male. Hypertension and coronary heart disease were more common in the cardiac injury group. The levels of inflammatory biomarkers in patients who experienced cardiac injury were generally higher than the levels of those without cardiac injury, including interleukin-6, interleukin-2 receptor (IL-2R), procalcitonin, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein. There were positive correlations between the levels of high-sensitivity troponin I and N-terminal prohormone of brain natriuretic peptide and the levels of inflammatory biomarkers. Logistic regression shows that IL-2R (odds ratio 1.001, 95% confidence interval 1.000-1.002, P = 0.045) and comorbidities (odds ratio 4.909, 95% confidence interval 1.231-19.579, P = 0.024) are independent risk factors for cardiac injury in patients with severe COVID-19. Conclusion: High levels of inflammatory biomarkers are associated with higher risk of cardiac injury in patients with severe COVID-19. IL-2R and comorbidities are predictors of cardiac injury.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: This paper presents a newborn (G2P2, gestational age of 39+6 weeks, birth weight of 3,200 g, with normal fetal amniotic fluid) with suspected coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) admitted to our hospital on February 10, 2020, at the birth age of 16 hours and 34 minutes. The Apgar scores at 1 and 5 min were 9 and 10 points, respectively. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The mother of the newborn was exposed to a patient with COVID-19 five days before delivery. The newborn had nausea and vomiting after birth, with feeding intolerance, and full enteral feeding was given on the 6th day after birth. The newborn was in good general condition during the period of hospitalization. RESULTS: The two 2019-nCoV nucleic acid tests of the newborn were negative on the 5th and 7th days after birth. On the 1st and 8th days after birth, typical pulmonary lesions were detected in the newborn by chest CT. Our study supports that chest imaging examination should be actively performed in the newborn even with a negative 2019-nCoV nucleic acid test in cases where a pregnant woman is exposed to a patient with COVID-19 or is confirmed with 2019-nCoV infection. CONCLUSIONS: For newborns with typical pulmonary lesions, strict quarantine measures are suggested if the possibility of COVID-19 cannot be excluded.
