ABSTRACT

Background: COVID-19 pandemic caused unprecedented disruption in everyone's worldwide. The lockdown and related restrictions to which the Spanish population was subjected affected the general health of our society as a whole. Objective: The aim of the study was to explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the lifestyle and habits of the University of Vigo community-Spain-. Method: A descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study was carried out by means of an anonymous 76-question survey. Results: 418 questionnaires were received, 359 (85.88%) were considered valid for the analysis. Population performed physical activity several times a week (59.39%), non-smokers (89.76%), occasional drinkers (>40% drink no more than 2-3 times/month), slept 7.06 +/- 0,9 hours/day and the 60.59% perceived their current state of health as good. During the lockdown they remained ac-tive (56.31%), followed safe recommendations (96.86%), had contact with infected people (42%), developed the disease (6%), and required hospital admission (0.40%). People surveyed about the pandemic situation were quite or very concerned (89.84%), had a negative quality life impact (75.20%), and suffered muscle and joint pain due to overuse of electronic devices (66.26%). Conclusion: Our findings show healthy lifestyle, balancing physical activity and/or sports routines with adequate rest and by minimising toxic hab-its. This behaviour maintained over time, together with following the safe recommendations, may have a protective role in the mental and the influence of COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

The Covid-19 pandemic has devastated all of Spain with Madrid as the epicenter of infections and deaths. Despite the general confinement of the population, news journalism continued as an essential service, carrying out its usual work. This new global paradigm has transformed the uses and customs of both emitters and receivers. For all these reasons, the main objective of this investigation is to know the opinion of "pandemic journalism" of a specific media group, with a prosumer profile and who has lived with the worst scenario of the disease: the students of the Journalism Degree of Madrid universities. The method of analysis is based on an opinion poll, the results of which show how the consumption of information by this group has been almost exclusively centralized in digital media and social networks. In addition, the present study reveals that the respondents are critical of the veracity of the news and the existence of fake news and the problem of the overabundance of information about the pandemic is verified, which has already been conceptualized as an infodemic. Finally, there is a low level of student media literacy, as well as a lack of mechanisms to overcome the threats of journalism in the post-truth era.

ABSTRACT

This research project aims to know the opinion about the "pandemic journalism" on the part of the Journalism students of Spanish Universities. The method applied was the opinion survey, with 685 tests performed;which gives a sample confidence of 99,23% with a standard error of 5%. The different universities that provide journalism studies and the number of students enrolled at each site were considered as the stratification criteria adopted. The results shows that students are largely critical of the phenomenon of "infodemic", as well as of the media accuracy and claim to be victims of fake news.

ABSTRACT

Background: Understanding the adaptive immune response to SARS-CoV-2, kinetics, persistence and their relationship with the disease severity would be crucial in order to predict recurrences, reinfections and could serve in the design of vaccination strategies. We sought to characterize IgG and neutralizing antibodies (NAbs) against SARS-CoV-2 in patients who were admitted to hospital with COVID-19 disease. Methods: All patients admitted between March-April 2020 with moderate, severe and critical SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia were prospectively studied. Clinical, laboratory data and IgG against SARS-CoV-2 levels were assessed at baseline (upon admission) and months 1, 3 and 6. NAbs were assessed at month 1, 3 and 6. IgG against the SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein was measured in serum by chemiluminescence (LIAISON® SARS-CoV-2 S1/S2, DiaSorin) and results were expressed in arbitrary units (AU)/mL. The neutralizing activity of plasma samples was analyzed in a 293T/hACE2 cell infection test using a surrogate viral inhibition assay that uses human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1)-based virus expressing SARS-CoV-2 S protein and Luciferase. For neutralization assays, pseudoviruses were incubated with increasing plasma dilutions (range 1/60-1/14,580) in order to obtain the ID50 values. Results: A total of 110 patients who were discharged from hospital were recruited. Median (range) age was 61 (57-71);61.2% were male and most reported comorbidities were hypertension (39.6%), diabetes (24.3%) and obesity (19.8%). Median time from symptoms onset to admission was 9 days (range 7-11). Median (range) IgG levels (AU/mL) at baseline and months 1, 3 and 6 were 48 (28-81), 168 (134-210), 140 (112-171) and 146 (104-206) respectively. No significant differences were observed in median IgG fold change values up to month 6 among severity groups. Median (range) ID50 values for NAbs at months 1, 3 and 6 were 3938 (1958-6407), 4344 (2335-6752) and 424 (124-1022) respectively. NAb titers presented a significant decrease (overall-10.2-fold change from maximal values) without differences among severity groups (Figure 1 a and b). No reinfections occurred. Conclusion: Specific humoral immune response to SARS CoV-2 in patients requiring hospital admission characterizes for a clear peak between 30 and 90 days after admission followed by a significant decline in titer of NAbs by day 180 regardless of disease severity. Longer follow-up may help to determine the longevity of the specific immune response.

ABSTRACT

This research analyses the opinion articles about the COVID-19 published in the main newspapers of Italy, Spain and Germany. To this purpose, a qualitative inductive-deductive content analysis methodology has been used along two complementary phases. The first included the detailed analysis of the sample, and the second involved a method of comparative textual analysis using the Sketch Engine software. The results show the existence of some common issues about the virus, although with different approaches depending on the country: a certain vision marked by national politics in the Spanish case, an interpretative view in the case of Germany and a more social-humanistic perspective in the Italian dailies. A discourse contrary to generating panic is common in the three countries studied, but with a clear underestimation of the virus' potential consequences in the first couple of months after the outbreak in Wuhan as regards the Spanish and Italian press.
