ABSTRACT

This study finds asymmetric information flow from the crude palm oil (CPO) futures to the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil futures market despite the CPO futures market's low liquidity and small market capitalization. Our finding is robust regardless of the 2019 Coronavirus outbreak and the asymmetric information flow becomes even unilateral considering the exchange rate risk on the Malaysian Ringgit. Finally, we explain the asymmetric information flow from the CPO futures to WTI futures market given that the impact of speculation on market efficiency crowds out that of liquidity. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

ABSTRACT

This paper aims to find ASEAN technology trends and technology cooperation fields related to the digital transformation between ASEAN and Korea. First, this paper combines analysis impact between containment policy and economic growth in ASEAN-5 countries. The result showed there was a very negative correlation between the two. And the containment policy contributed to the growth of digital economy size. It means that some of industries eventually accelerated the growth of digital economy due to containment policy after Covid-19 pandemic and it will continue to grow. Despite the recession due to Covid-19, an accelerated growth type of industry in ASEAN-5 has increased the size of the digital economy. Accordingly, ASEAN governments are trying to overcome the economic downturn through massive investment on the digital transformation fields. Therefore, this paper helps to draw policy implications for the necessity of the technical cooperation between Korea and ASEAN.

ABSTRACT

Large-scale COVID-19 vaccinations are currently underway in many countries in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Here, we report, besides generation of neutralizing antibodies, consistent alterations in hemoglobin A1c, serum sodium and potassium levels, coagulation profiles, and renal functions in healthy volunteers after vaccination with an inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. Similar changes had also been reported in COVID-19 patients, suggesting that vaccination mimicked an infection. Single-cell mRNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) before and 28 days after the first inoculation also revealed consistent alterations in gene expression of many different immune cell types. Reduction of CD8+ T cells and increase in classic monocyte contents were exemplary. Moreover, scRNA-seq revealed increased NF-κB signaling and reduced type I interferon responses, which were confirmed by biological assays and also had been reported to occur after SARS-CoV-2 infection with aggravating symptoms. Altogether, our study recommends additional caution when vaccinating people with pre-existing clinical conditions, including diabetes, electrolyte imbalances, renal dysfunction, and coagulation disorders.
