Stricter infection controls and school closures to tackle COVID-19 are regularly called for in the public discourse on the pandemic. However, restrictions on schooling and leisure activities can have negative consequences. Norwegian and international data appear to support the argument to keep schools and day-care centres open, with good infection control measures, and that closing them should be a last resort.
