The Examination Of Stakeholders’ Opinions On Distance Education During The Covid-19 Epidemic

ABSTRACT
This study aims to examine the opinions of various stakeholders (Provincial National Education Directorate officials, school administrators, teachers, school counsellors, instructors, students, parents) regarding the problems and their solutions about the distance education implemented in Turkey during the COVID-19 epidemic. The study was carried out with the interview method, which is one of the qualitative research methods, and it was designed based on the phenomenological pattern. The data within the scope of the research were obtained by using semi-structured interview forms and data were collected from 137 stakeholders. The content analysis technique was used to analyze the data obtained from the research. As a result of the study, some of the stakeholders’ opinions on the advantages of distance education are as follows it’s independent of time and place, the lessons can be watched repeatidly, it meets the need for education during the pandemic period, it protects people against disease transmission, it’s important for technology in education and developing technological skills. The disadvantages of distance education which are mostly stated are related with the loss of motivation, lack of measurement and evaluation, insufficiency of resources such as internet and computers, inequality of opportunity in education, lack of environmental communication and interaction, technical problems, insufficient socialization, and unpreparedness for the distance education process.The solution suggestions of the stakeholders are mostly declared about forming the measurement and evaluation in the process, establishing equal opportunities, increasing the participation and interaction in the lesson, strengthening the infrastructure,maintaining lessons with students’ own teachers, and reducing the number of lessons. © 2019,MÍllî EğÍtÍm.All rights reserved.
