ABSTRACT
With the rise of social media, the way that the world communicates and interacts has changed drastically. It has percolated down to the organizational level and impacted the leadership dynamics at the workplace. There is a widespread presence of leaders on social media platforms for personal, social, and business benefits. The present chapter employs the TREAT (task-orientation, relation-orientation, empowering, authenticity and teambuilding) leader behavior framework to understand leadership as demonstrated via social media and proposes the BOAT (build, observe, act, transfer) leadership attributes. It also illustrates the role of the leader on social media during times of a crisis. As an implication, leaders and organizations must understand the power of social media and work with it in harmony to their advantage. © 2021 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
