ABSTRACT
Mehta et al. perform untargeted metabolic profiling of serum samples from patients presenting to the emergency department with different infections. The antiviral small molecule 3’-Deoxy-3’,4’-didehydro-cytidine (ddhC) was detectable in human serum and accurately differentiated viral infections from other infection syndromes in both a discovery and validation patient cohort.
