Photography, Art, Media and e-Learning in Amazon's hinterlands: Thoughts on Methods and Experiments

ABSTRACT

This article is a reflection on the remote teaching of photography and the use of mobile media, such as cell phones, in digital processes of artistic expression. To do so, it follows two paths the first based on observation of photography teaching methods in a higher education institution;and the second from the appreciation of the photo essay “Elevé Acaraú”, produced by one of the students. Both paths – teaching and artistic expression – took place in the city of Parintins, a river island located in the interior of the Brazilian state of Amazonas, amidst the pandemic of the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) and the historical flooding record of Rio Amazonas, which reached the mark of 9.38 meters above its level. The photo essay expresses in its visual language the tension between art, everyday life, pandemic and flood in an immediate Amazon scenario. © 2021 Association for Computing Machinery.
