Implementation and Challenges of Physical Education in Primary and Secondary Schools in England During COVID-19 Pandemic

ABSTRACT
The operation of education and sports facilities in the England was affected during COVID-19 pandemic due to the lockdowns regulation. Before the pandemic happened, the physical education (PE) in the schools was implanted according to the National curriculum in England PE programmes of study. Sport and PE related organisation such as Association for PE also provided PE teachers and instructors resource and support to deliver PE lessons. Such organisations also provided information and online resource that help remotely deliver PE lessons during the pandemic. Most the online resource aimed to motivate students to participate physical activity and maintain physical fitness during the remote learning period. When the schools reopened, PE teachers and instructors could deliver PE lessons following the PE curriculum, but the group activities and sports were still limited. The supports that provided to schools in England by sport and PE related organisation during the pandemic including the detailed guidance on how to implemented PE, and the online resource to assist remote learning are useful for Taiwan when facing the disruption caused by COVID-19. It is also important to recognise that the inevitable effects on how the PE lessons are delivered during the pandemic, although all the supporting resource are provided.
