ABSTRACT
According to the authors, one of the most significant ways in which Baby Boomers contributed to the labor market was in how "[they] shaped the American economy" (9) with their hiring norms. Jumping to the future workforce, the authors explained through detailed data and statistics that to sustain the u.s. population and the labor market at the same levels as those of the Baby Boomer generation, future generations would need to have a total fertility rate (TL1 - https//media.proquest.com/media/hms/PFT/1/X01BN?_a=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&_s=8QprjDuuBbjDUnaNFB8wu7VMcrM%3D ER) of 2.1, which means at least 2.1 children per one woman had to be born just to replace every living person at that time;a TFR of 2.1 would not grow the population (11). While the Millennial generation is known for their sense of entitlement, value of work/life balance, and flexibility in schedules, there are likely more reasons than opioid addiction and the desire to work less that could also explain why there are fewer prime-age men in the current workforce.
