Air pollutants and acute coronary syndrome A huge case crossover study from China (more than one million patients from 2000 hospitals in 300 cities) links transient increases in exposures to fine particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, and carbon monoxide to the timing of the onset of acute coronary syndrome. Data from the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing show that any benefit from this restriction came at the cost of poorer mental health.
