Times of the COVID crisis in tension between immediacy, durability and uncertainties

ABSTRACT

The scientific and medical uncertainties that marked the COVID-19 epidemic, and the urgency of responding to it, have generated doubts in France about the correctness of medical and social decisions. An impossible anticipation has added a temporal tension responsible for reversals in the actions concerning the elderly living in EPHAD, in the appreciation of the relationship between authority and knowledge, or in the confidence of the measures of effectiveness at the basis of medical decisions or public health. A more systematic use of the experiential knowledge of the people concerned and the co-construction of decisions could reduce the deleterious effects of these reversals. © 2022 Elsevier Masson SAS Les incertitudes scientifiques et médicales qui ont marqué l’épidémie de Covid-19, et l'urgence d'y répondre, ont engendrées en France, des doutes sur la justesse des décisions médicales et sociales. Une impossible anticipation y a ajouté une tension temporelle responsable de renversements dans les actions concernant les personnes âgées vivant en EPHAD, dans l'appréciation des relations entre autorité et savoirs, ou dans la confiance des mesures d'efficacité au fondement des décisions médicales ou de santé publique. Un recours plus systématique aux savoirs d'expérience des personnes concernées et à la co-construction des décisions pourrait réduire les effets délétères de ces retournements. © 2022 Elsevier Masson SAS
