ABSTRACT
Described as a global epidemic by the World Health Organization and rapidly affecting the world since the beginning of 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic has created many negative effects on both individuals and societies in physical, emotional, social and economic dimensions. In this study, "The anxiety of catching the New Type Coronavirus (Covid-19) of Sports High School Students was examined by considering gender, age, class level and active sports status. The study that carried out with the general screening method which developed by Demir, Cicioglu and Ilhan (2020) the "Athletes' Anxiety Scale for catching New Type Coronavirus (Covid-19)" was used. A total of 683 participants, 444 males and 239 females, studying at sports high schools in the Eastern Anatolia Region, participated voluntarily. In the comparison of the descriptive statistics of the data with two and more groups, the T-Test and One Way ANOVA tests were performed using the SPSS 22.0 package program, respectively, and the level of significance was accepted as p<0.05. While there was no significant difference in the anxiety levels of the participants according to the gender variable, a significant difference was found according to the class(grade) level (p<0.05). The level of anxiety, which was evaluated over two sub-dimensions, showed a similar difference in the socialization anxiety dimension of those who did active sports and those who did not during the covid 19 process, and a significant difference in the individual anxiety dimension (p<0.05). It can be said that the changed environmental conditions that restrict the lifestyle have different effects on individuals according to their demographic characteristics. It is thought that taking into account variables such as age and gender, together with routines related to life, in studies aimed at reducing the negative effects of extraordinary processes on the emotional dimension of individuals and societies will strengthen the efforts in this process.
