ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the effects of COVID-19 on the world economy. Though the economic repercussions of any pandemic are more quantifiable once economies have had a chance to recover, the immediate effects are more glaring in a world dependent on global trade. In an attempt to understand the ripple effects COVID-19 on trade, supply, and demand coming to a halt, we highlight the most vulnerable industries and regions as well as the economic ramifications on everyday life. From pre-COVID-19 conditions to political ramifications and conflicts, to projected job losses as a direct repercussion of COVID-19, this chapter aims to highlight how a pandemic leaves lasting effects on the world economy. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.
