ABSTRACT
The present study aims at investigating the positive side of Mr. Johnson, the Prime Minister of Britain, during the opening statement of COVID-19. Particularly, it sheds light on the positive constructions that that are employed by Mr. Johnson at three stages the description, interpretation and explanation. The data in question are analysed descriptively and statistically. It is found that the active voice and the lexical verbs are mostly used in the description stage;the directive, expressive and declarative speech acts are equally used in the interpretation stage. It is concluded that the positive message are appropriately achieved via using the active voice, verbs, the expressive, declarative and directive speech acts in Mr. Johnson’s discourse. © 2022, Association Res Militaris.
