Evaluation of the Prevalence of Heart Problems in Patients with Covid-19 with High Blood Pressure and Diabetes in Patients Admitted to Icu

ABSTRACT

In this study Evaluation of the Prevalence of Heart Problems in Patients with Covid-19 with High Blood Pressure and Diabetes in Patients Admitted to ICU was investigated. Due to the small number of some underlying diseases such as asthma, acute respiratory disease, liver, kidney and cancer, these diseases were merged together and entered as a variable. According to the results of univariate logistic regression, body mass index, diabetes and underlying diseases were related to contracting the Covid-19 disease, so that an increase of one unit of body mass index was 4% and diabetes and underlying diseases also had a 41% chance. It increased the incidence of Covid-19. All variables were entered into the multivariable regression model by enter method to calculate their simultaneous effect. Collinearity between quantitative variables was checked and rejected. After entering the variables into the multivariable logistic regression and observing the effect of each variable in the presence of other variables, almost the same results as the univariate regression were obtained. The results of the present study showed that the risk of hospitalization due to Covid-19 disease is significantly related to male gender and old age, because increasing age leads to defects in the body's immune system's response to pathogens and increases the rate of hospitalization. Also, the current research showed that blacks, obese people and smokers, as well as people with underlying diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, kidney and high blood pressure, have the highest number of hospitalizations due to Covid-19. They are because the efficiency of the immune system response in these people is low, so it leads to severe type of disease and hospitalization.
