ABSTRACT
As a disease, COVID-19 was less devastating in many African countries than initially feared. The measures to control the pandemic, however, had severe impacts. Togo, for example, saw protests, a boom in the shadow economy, and, ultimately, more solidarity. This article highlights the impacts of COVID-19 in terms of health care, social crisis, social peace, and social protection, focusing on how the pandemic has triggered a new dynamism concerning solidarity and universal social protection in Togo.
